Eco Factor: Ecofriendly train station design includes energy-efficient lighting and natural ventilation.

COBE Architects has won the competition to redesign Copenhagen’s Norreport train station, which is used by over 25,000 people each day. The design has been made bike-friendly, which is a necessity for a place like Copenhagen, where bikes are a preferred means of travel.

With a series of rounded, floating roofs set upon glass pavilions, the station will have ample bike parking space and will make use of energy-efficient lighting and natural ventilation to reduce the building’s energy demands.

The station comprises eleven ventilation towers that help naturally regulate the interior temperature and also allow natural light to filter through. Moreover, the towers will also be acting as information boards, utilizing LED screens and energy efficient lighting to direct passengers to their departing trains.
