Eco Architecture: Kö-Bogen mixed-use development to get crowned with a green roof

Eco Factor: Sustainable mixed-use development with a green roof.

Daniel Libeskind has unveiled a stunning design for Kö-Bogen, a mixed-use development for downtown Düsseldorf, Germany. The complex will provide retail and office space, while greening the skyline with a grassy green roof.

The lofted space connects two city blocks and provides a new zone for pedestrians and shoppers. The green roof will connect the building with historical parks in the downtown area. The grassy roof also prevents rainwater runoff and helps reduce the energy required for heating and cooling the complex.

Designed as a mixed-use development, the first three floors will contain retail stores and the top three will provide office space. The window design will control solar heat gain, while providing an option to make use of natural light whenever possible.
