Eco Factor: Private housing development to be powered by 6MW solar plant.

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is giving the final touches to a 6MW solar plant that will power their new Soaring Heights Communities, a record-setting private housing development constructed in Arizona’s Sonora Desert, where the sun shines 350 days a year.

The solar plant is equipped with 81,000 solar panels and should be able to provide carbon-neutral living space for military families as early as December. The Defense Department is the largest consumer of energy in the federal government and the new housing development should address their faith in environmentally responsible construction.

The Soaring Heights Communities is being constructed by Actus Lend Lease, while the solar installation is being handled by SolarCity.
