Eco Factor: Carbon neutral expertise center generates solar energy for power.

Van Marcke has announced the development of Big Blue, an information and sales center devoted to energy-friendly solutions for heating and water. The renovated building was actually an industrial depot that was completely torn down and converted into a carbon-neutral information and sales center for consumers and professionals around sustainability.

The 1500-square-meter building complies with the latest in passive-house standards and neither fuel nor natural gas is being used for heating purposes. All electrical power for heating, ventilation and lighting is derived from solar energy. The water for the sanitary facilities comes from an installation that collects rainwater from the roof and filters it.

The energy-efficient building will open its doors November 14, and to celebrate the opening of Big Blue, some 20 info sessions on sustainable solutions for heating and water are being organized on and November 14 and 15 in Zaventem, near Brussels. These sessions are set to address topical and much-talked-about subjects around sustainable and ecological solutions.
