Eco Bikes: Madsen Cycles debuts urban utility bikes for days when SUVs are history
Anupam | Mar 2 2009

Eco Factor: Long-tail multi-utility bikes.

Cars have gradually evolved to the modern era where SUVs are more prevalent not just because of their practical uses, but mostly because of their overall appeal. With electric engines still not up to the task of powering cars at high speeds for a longer time, bikes seem to be the future, at least for now. To tackle our lust for high-end SUVs in an eco-conscious way Madsen Cycles has launched the kg271 “urban utility bikes.”

With long tails, these bikes are available in two versions – one with a rack built with oversized steel tubing, and the other with a bucket carrying two seats and two seatbelts. The bikes are priced at $1099 and $1299 respectively.

The Dark Side:

With a larger and slimmer front wheel, the manufacturer has sacrificed on handling for the strength needed at the rear end.
