Eco Cars: 110kg car does 568km on a single liter of hydrogen

Eco Factor: Zero-emission car running on hydrogen gets 568km per liter of hydrogen.

Soaring fuel prices and the rise in global warming have always made inventors put their bets on renewable sources of fuel such as hydrogen. Students at Sakarya University in northwestern Turkey have designed a small car that they claim can drive for 568km with just a liter of hydrogen in its fuel tank.

The car, called the SAHİMO, was voted as the third-most fuel-efficient vehicle in the 26th Shell Eco Marathon contest last year, and the student team is now looking for ways to beat their record with a car that can run for 1,000km on a single liter of hydrogen at this year’s Global Green Challenge. Weighing just 110 kilograms, the car cost $170,000 to build.
