China will soon possess the world’s largest photovoltaic power plant, which will have the capacity to power up to 3 million Chinese homes with a whopping 2000MW of solar electricity. The $6 billion power plant will be constructed by US-based First Solar and construction is expected to commence next year.

The project will be developed in different phases as the agreement between Chinese government and First Solar calls for ground to be broken on the first 30MW phase by June 1, 2010, which will be followed by a second 100MW phase and 870MW additions to be completed by the end of 2014. A final phase comprising of additions totaling 1000MW is expected to be online by the end of 2019.
