Eco-friendly Plastic-making: From vitamin C or pure water!
Irani | Oct 26 2006

Scientists are developing plastics in an environment-responsible way! Yes, they are using environmentally friendly substances like vitamin C or pure water to make plastics!

This new plastic making not only presents an effective and eco-friendly alternative to its common counterpart-manufacturing technique — free radical polymerization - but also improves efficiency, product control, and cost for the polymer industry dramatically, according to Andy Lovinger, the National Science Foundation program director.

Overseeing funds for the two projects, he said,

Each of these approaches could have a very significant impact on polymer manufacturing.

These new processes are being developed by the Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pennsylvania researchers.
