Eco Gadgets: Air Scale – Know what you’re breathing
Anupam | Mar 5 2009

Eco Factor: Device rates air quality according to the amount of pollutants.

Cutting yourself from society and keeping your doors shut will not help you breathe pure air. With the number of cars on the roads increasing in leaps and bounds, the amount of pollutants in the air is always on the rise. While strategies to reduce air pollution will take a couple of decades to take effect, knowing the quality of air you and your family are inhaling can make a difference.

Air Scale is one such device designed by Yasuhiro Akama for those who simultaneously care about the environment and about their well being. The device continuously scans the air quality and rates it in three different colors, where red means dirty, blue means normal and green means clean. Of course you cannot always be in a “green” area, but you can also prevent yourself from being in the “red” area.

The Dark Side:

The product is designed to have a LED interface, colors of which will not be visible in broad daylight.
