Eco Gadgets: Greenfreeze - climate-safe freezer finally debuts in the USA
Sameer Kumar | Sep 30 2008

Eco Factor: The first hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) free refrigeration unit makes its way into US market.

It is ironic that the self-assumed “leader of the free world” took almost 16 years to change over to HFC-free cooling technology. The first Greenfreeze technology has made its way into the US market, and the new technology will cut down on the harmful hydrofluorocarbons in a significant way. HFCs cause a lot more damage than normal carbon emissions, and this new technology eliminates their usage. The new Greenfreeze units in the USA are being produced by Ben and Jerry’s, and they have been given permission by the Environmental Protection Agency to produce 2000 of these units.

The Dark Side:

Greenfreeze is a wonderful and much needed change in freezing technology in the US. It is still unbelievable that the technology that sold 300 million units across the world since 1992 has made its way to US markets only now. Hopefully, a lot more than just 2000 units will make it out in the next few years.

I am always amazed when I go to someone’s home to see the ”extra” freezer or refrigerator in the garage. I love that these commercial freezers are eco-friendly!
