Eco Gadgets: WatCleaner makes sure that garbage doesn’t make fresh water non-potable

Eco Factor: Water cleaner absorbs garbage and oil from the surface of water to keep it clean.

Freshwater sources are on a decline, and with global warming taking effect the situation will become worse in a few decades. However, with Chinese researchers working to develop futuristic systems we can be sure that we won’t have to drink dirty water in the future. Industrial designer Ye Yao has designed a concept water cleaning device that helps keep freshwater sources clean and potable at all times. The “WatCleaner,” as Yao refers to his design, can detect the condition of water and clean it by itself or call for manual aid.

The system carries detectors which can sniff out contaminants in water that include oil and trash. With built-in systems the WatCleaner can absorb oil and trash from the surface if the condition isn’t too bad. In extreme cases the system can relay the information to ground-based controllers, who can then make use of specialized systems to clear the debris.

The intelligent system can also track the location of fish and help make conditions better for them too. Once the system absorbs oil and trash it can return to the base controller who can then remove the debris from the built-in garbage sink, making the device fit for re-use.
