Eco Tech: ‘A’ solar installation at The Athenian School
Anupam | Feb 5 2009

Eco Factor: Solar installation at The Athenian School for renewable energy.

REC Solar has finished installing 1300 PV panels at The Athenian School, finalizing an arrangement that will generate 220KW of green electric power. The PV panels are arranged in the shape of a large “A” covering an area of over 30,000 square feet. The panels are developed by Mitsubishi Electric and the school will switch to solar electricity on February 11 following a formal inauguration ceremony.

Tioga Energy financed the setup and will sell renewable electricity to The Athenian School under the SurePath Solar Power Purchase Agreement. The Athenian School will buy solar power from the system over a period of 20 years.

The Dark Side:

This installation is expected to do wonderfully well in educating schoolchildren on technologies that are great for the environment. Such installations should be a more common sight all over the globe for the environment to benefit.
