Eco Factor: Wind farm generating 1,000MW of power.

Germany’s biggest renewable energy company is on its way to build Australia’s biggest wind farm near Broken Hill in New South Wales. The state government has approved of the project that will have almost 600 turbines generating 1,000MW of green electric power that will be enough to power 400,000 homes.

The German company Conergy will build the $2 billion wind farm by its Australian subsidiary, Epuron. This project will require more than 32,000 hectares of land. Permission has been given for the first stage of construction but on the condition that Epuron will stick to noise guidelines, maintain visual amenity and limit environmental impacts.

The initial stage of construction will involve installation of 282 wind turbines, which will be increased to 598 by the final stage. When the wind farm will be fully-functional, it will save more than six million tons of greenhouse gas emissions. The project will prove to be beneficial as it will provide great job opportunities, and will benefit the economy as well.
