Eco Factor: Cement made from waste collected from water treatment facilities.
Often known by names such as “Mad Scientist” or a “Dreamer,” Pliny Fisk III thinks he can save the world and help in greening skyscrapers of tomorrow with sustainable cement he calls “Megacrete.” The scientist is working on a mission to develop ecofriendly building materials that have the potential to change the way we build our communities.
The inventor has developed sustainable cement, dubbed Megacrete, which is made from magnesium oxide and phosphate from brine, which is a by-product of most petroleum and water treatment facilities. The cement blocks can also be hardened by another invention from Pliny known as Ashcrete, cement made of the fly-ash waste from coal-fired power plants. Though Pliny will still need years to convince architects to use his ecofriendly building materials, he does prove that buildings can be constructed in a better way.
