Eco Tech: NxtGen announces syngas generator to clean up emissions

Eco Factor: Syngas generator to lower emissions and fuel consumption.

NxtGen Emission Controls has announced the availability of its Syngas Generator Evaluation Unit for lab use. The system is designed to lower fuel consumption and costs more than existing particulate filter and urea injection systems, with the help of Syngas, which is a mix of hydrogen and carbon monoxide.

Syngas is produced in the vehicle in the form of exhaust gases when diesel is burned. Being combustible, the gas is used to regenerate particulate filters and lean NOx traps at lower temperatures. This allows regeneration at partial load conditions such as in-town driving where exhaust gases might not get hot enough for regeneration.

The Dark Side:

For now the company is just launching an evaluation unit, which will be used and tested in labs.
