Eco Factor: Panasonic’s Li-ion batteries to be used in MIT’s solar car for the Global Green Challenge.

Panasonic Corporation has announced that the company will support the MIT Solar Vehicle Team in their participation of the Global Green Challenge, which will be held in October in Australia. According to the sponsorship agreement, Panasonic will be providing the team with its high-capacity lithium ion batteries that will store solar energy generated by the car’s photovoltaic panels.

In exchange for the sponsorship the company will have the right to display its logo on the body of the vehicle. Universities from around the world will compete in the grueling race that is to cover a distance of 3021km on solar energy. In addition to MIT’s solar ride, Panasonic’s batteries will also be used by a team from Japan’s Tokai University, which is also competing in the same category.
