Eco Tech: Trina Solar installs world’s largest rooftop solar array
Anupam | Mar 26 2009

Eco Factor: Rooftop solar array capable of generating 2.4MW of green power.

Taking rooftop solar to its limits, Chinese solar module manufacturer Trina Solar has installed the largest ever rooftop solar array atop the Atlantic City Convention Center in New Jersey. Consisting of more than 13,400 modules, the array is stated to generate a whopping 2.4MW at peak capacity. The energy generated will amount to a 25% reduction in the building’s electricity bills. Trina Solar estimates that the Atlantic City Convention Center will be able to save about $4.4 million over the arrays 20 year lifetime.

The Dark Side:

Installing large rooftop solar arrays won’t solve any problem, unless the energy required is reduced to match the generated energy. With 2.4MW onboard energy plant, the building still requires about 7MW of grid electricity.
