Eco Factor: Monorail system designed to be powered by solar energy.

Iosa Ghini Associati has proposed the Energy Belt, a solar-powered monorail system to connect Bologna’s airport to the city center. The system will run on sculpted lines above the countryside that will provide breathtaking views for the travelers.

The monorail system will also provide space for other uses such as a pedestrian walkway alongside the tracks and a solar system that runs along the rail’s southern side.

The system has been designed to move people from the train station in Bologna to the airport with just one stop. At each station a metal screen covered with vegetation will protect the passengers from the elements and also help purify the air.

The southern face of the rail is covered in photovoltaic panels to ensure that the system gets adequate energy during daytime.
