The $1.25 Million Solar Powered Hydrogen Fueling Station
Deepa | May 21 2008

You can be considerate and show your compassion for our planet by driving a hydrogen car. Great! And for such cars, there are some hydrogen fueling stations too. But can it get any more greener? Hydrogen-powered, or fuel-cell, vehicles are just what the doctor has advised as they do not generate any emissions and also reduce the need for traditional fossil fuel. And with the escalating petroleum prices, it’s but obvious that we hook on to things that are solar powered and feed on eco-friendly element like hydrogen. So here comes in the picture Solar Powered Hydrogen Fueling Stations that are currently offered for (not so cool) $1,250,000. And it ain’t simply for some business venture. Even folks with a green thumb stashing big green packets in their vaults can afford this green luxury. Sourcing from wind, solar as well as grid and using Dionized water, this station developed by Distributed Energy Systems is capable of producing 12Kg of Hydrogen per day.

The site posting this product is actually trying to make us understand that together we can make the difference and be free from the torturous rates of fossil fuels.

See if you can interpret something out of these images as not much is given in simple words to understand the techi part behind it.

As energy costs continue to increase, it is becoming more critical for the world to transition to an alternative fueling infrastructure. Hydrogen carries the promise to guide us away from using oil and coal, while simultaneously improving our environment by reducing greenhouse gases. Earlier today, the Dallas Morning News published an article about a study from National Resources Defense Fund that suggests not taking action to combat global warming will be more costly to the United States. Although the cost of the solar hydrogen fueling station described above may appear to be costly, the $1.9 trillion a year in real estate losses, hurricane damage and energy costs, as the NRDC study suggests, will have a greater economic impact. As a nation, we need to urge our government and business leaders to develop an alternative energy infrastructure.

Costs from hurricane damage, real estate losses, and higher energy and water costs alone as a result of rising temperatures and sea levels would total $1.9 trillion a year by 2100, based on today’s dollar value, the study says.

As a representative of the Hydrogen Education Foundation, I am helping people understand that incorporating hydrogen within the world’s energy portfolio will simultaneously reduce our dependence on oil, while reducing the country’s carbon footprint by reducing greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere.

Recently, Treehugger.com posted a survey asking readers if hydrogen was a viable solution. More than 50% of respondents thought that hydrogen is a viable solution as long as it can be produced from renewable resources. Based on the results from the survey, if we are to meet our own expectations, as a nation, we must come together by stressing to our government and business leaders to support the development of an alternative energy infrastructure. This will allow for hydrogen to be produced from water using renewable resources and improve the overall effectiveness of renewable energy. In the meantime, we must use the resources we have available to establish a hydrogen refueling infrastructure.

The solar hydrogen fueling, described in this article, produces hydrogen onsite, bypassing the need for hydrogen to be piped or transported. The natural energy from the sun is used to split water, through a process called electrolysis, creating a completely clean and sustainable method to produce hydrogen fuel.

The article could be information overload for me. But I guess the real point is that by having Solar Powered Hydrogen Fueling Stations around as well as driving a hydrogen car would equate to a greener and more safe environment to live =) -lexus oem parts
