Green thought for amputees - A solar powered wheelchair
Piyush | Nov 21 2007

The entire world is on wheels. Some wheels that we control and some that control us. There is a lot happening in the physically challenged world, from misery to technology. Take an example of this solar powered wheelchair invented by a research team at the Southern Taiwan University of Technology in Tainan County. Keeping in mind the backdrops of the hand powered wheelchair and the electric ones; this new invention is designed to outclass the former and the latter not only with respect to its solar energy element, but with the price factor too. A conventional fully-powered electric wheelchair can go approximately 7km on a charge, but in contrast, a solar powered wheelchair can go 10km to 12km. Now, the price- The price of a traditional electric wheelchair stands between NT$30,000 to NT$50,000, while the price of a solar powered wheelchair is likely to be priced below NT$15,000 after going into mass production. We don’t have the exact image of the product, but when possible we will be the first ones to update it. However if you have one, please post it in the comment section below.
