In an absolutely welcome move U.S. Department of Energy is all set to find correct prototype for next generation nuclear plant. Idaho National Laboratory is conducting such a search in order to find ways to build a high temperature reactor capable of producing hydrogen electricity, and also reducing emission of greenhouse gases in the environment. While replacing fossil fuels by nuclear energy in transportation and petrochemical industries, this plant is sure to reduce global warming threat to a considerable amount. Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy Dennis Spurgeon said
Proceeding with conceptual design for the Next Generation Nuclear Plant brings the Department of Energy another step closer to developing this advanced new technology
In a groundbreaking decision the department has asked for the designs from the engineers around the country from which the short listed ones will be called for further discussion on the project. It is indeed a good sight that the energy department is thinking green this time. Putting up a nuclear plant like this will be the first step of this kind to develop plants with minimum or nil amount of greenhouse gas emission. While global warming in its full damaging capacity and there have been a lot of efforts all over the world to have control over the extremely damaging situation, this step will be a pathfinder to all nations to start thinking about the next generation designs of nuke plants. When the same thing can be done without putting the environment into turmoil, why disturb the equilibrium by introducing hazardous nuclear plants that spark debates all over the world. For greener environment and extended life of human civilization, it is utmost necessary we pick the tune at the earliest and try solving the greenhouse issue with ‘next generation’ way. Better for the entire environment, and better for mankind.
