OLED - The flexible, power-efficient future of lighting
Deepa | Jul 30 2008

Moving over CFLs and LEDs, it’s the OLEDs that are touted to be the future of lighting. I would rate its eco-factor (mercury free) as the prime advantage but the list doesn’t end there. This avant-garde technology will get rid of all the additional light fixtures that we need to brighten our dens. The homes of the future will practically have no or minimum light fixtures as OLED is transparent sheet when turned off but when powered gives off light. So slap it on your walls, ceilings or windows and watch them come to life at night when powered. Absolutely slim and flexible, this power efficient lighting source can be played upon with ease to give any form of desire. Here’s a sneak preview of GE’s version of the futuristic illumination. Though not much is divulged about the techie part, the presentation focuses more on the ultra modern appealing applications. Roll over for more interesting images illustrating the versatility of OLEDs.

Omg these lights are beautiful :)

Yeah Nithya....imagine if we could do away with all those bulbs and tubes and chase the darkness away with such wonderful alternatives!

You are right, these lights are awesome! When I saw the title of this post, I thought we are just starting to replace our lights with CFL and already LEDs are getting popular, and now something new after LEDs already? But this is simply superb!
Great to see technology speeding up progress in lighting space too...and the looks are stunning.
