Raising the bar of the basic green mode of traveling to another level, Montreal’s new public bike sharing system is the most avant-garde concept designed till date. Dubbed as the Public Bike System (PBS), it was schemed to offer an eye-catching as well as practical option for those seeking urban transportation that leaves lesser carbon footprints on the environment. it also enhances the whole set up of public transportation network. The brain behind this high-tech ultramodern system is Michel Dallaire. Featuring solar-powered docking stations and high-tech RFID-tagged aluminum bikes, the system is a completely theft-proof.
Stations can be set up in a matter of minutes, leaving no trace of their presence once they are removed. Because the technical platforms are so easy to move, stations can also be expanded or contracted in very short order.
Each station holds six bikes and six docks, and users can find the nearest available bike on a website and then return the bike to any other dock. Payments can be made via credit, debit, or “member” card.
Entirely new software was developed to run the system, offering both managers and the public the chance to see real-time stations and the number bikes available anywhere on the system network.
Grab a public bike from somewhere around town, ride it to your destination and leave it for somebody else to use! Simple isn’t it?

Very nice concept. Wonder if it can work in country like India where there is very little space to ride a bicycle on roads. Hmmmm.... and by the time you reach destination on a bicycle, you will need a shower and change!
