Schimmel Art - Vibrant mosaic rises from junk mail and cards
Deepa | Aug 2 2008

What do you do to all the junk mails, greeting cards, brochures, catalogs and the likes? Ask me and I try to do my bit of eco practice by retaining the envelopes for reusing while chucking the inner matter in the bins. But Sandy Schimmel could see beyond most of us and is the brain behind the much talked about Schimmel Art. Shaped out of recycled junk mail, ads and flyer, this kinda eco-conscientious art renders a new meaning to mosaic art. Her vision is to utilize the disciplines of painting and mosaic to create a connected collection of representational or abstract images in segments of amazing color, utilizing resources that would otherwise go to waste. Ink colors are far more diverse than glass or tile and even though this kind of raw material is free, the talent and end product is priceless. At least in the eyes on an ecologist.

And if you are assuming it to be similar to a school kid’s craft project then clear out your wrong perception as priced from $2000 to $4,000 plus, this extraordinary eco-friendly fine art is worth every green penny and effort.
