Incredible little house wins Small Project Award

It’s truly incredible. It not only looks pleasing but could be a simple low-cost solution to millions of homeless people throughout the globe. Designed by Abōd in South Africa, this innovative design was honored by the American Institute of Architects this year with a Small Project Award.

The design objective was to develop a low cost house with a number of add-on options to personalize each home and this is what the Abōd team came up with. A simple, yet structurally sound and also aesthetically pleasing house which can be built by 4 people in just one day with only a screwdriver and an awl.

The houses are affordable, lightweight, easy to assemble or disassemble, and can be transported complete in a 4′ x 12′ x 2′ box. And in case you run out of space they are expandable too. You can simply add-on extra units and see your home grow. Small indeed is beautiful.
