Volvo goes carbon-free!
Lakshmi | Sep 27 2007

Volvo which was initially tackling emissions showing off their “carbon-free” trucks is now saying that their goal is to make all of their plants “carbon-free” too. Initially they were called carbon neutral! The first plant which does not emit carbon is in Ghent, Belgium.

“It is not an easy undertaking, but we are prepared to try different alternatives to achieve our goal for CO2-free production in our plants.”

according to Volvo CEO Leif Johansson,

To make this a reality, the company is building three wind-power plants on-site, that will provide half of the power for the plant. For the rest of their power needs, Volvo will depend on the Belgium energy company, Electrabel, that will provide certified green energy. Two plants also in Sweden are also scheduled to be carbon-absent.
