Wearable solar garments – The next big thing in fashion
Anupam | Sep 22 2007

After the tremendous success that wearable technology received, designers are now working on ways to embed solar technology in clothes. Elena Corchera, is one such designer who apart from making clothes green is also working on ways to make them look beautiful on you.

Her unique collection of garments known as “We Will Become Silhouettes”, incorporates organic solar cells. These cells charge when you go out in the day wearing them and when you get back home they transform into a decorative ambient light display for the home. When they are brightening things up for you they use nothing more that what they gained during the day.

The technique makes use of electronic components that are directly incorporated into the textile and are woven onto the cloth using conductive thread. The designs make use of solar panels as a piece of textile art as ornate collars, luxurious fans, and feminine parasols.

The designer has shown the world that wearable technology can be much more that just an iPod charger or a bracelet phone. Check out some more designs at her website.
